What Do Make Money Scams Smell Like?

The Internet is full of Make Money Scams that can vacuum clean your wallet, ruin your reputation and waste your valuable time. For this reason, it pays to have a general formula for detecting make money scams before you get sucked right in.

Speaking from personal experience, I have never made any money when I have participated in any program which smells like an MLM (Multi Level Marketing) program.

A Few Scam Detection Methods

Here is a few points which trigger a make money scam red flag in my head.

Matrix – Any program which uses the term matrix smells like a make money scam to me.

Joining Fee – Any program where I have to pay a couple of hundred bucks just for the privilege of participating smells bad to me.

Get Paid To Recruit Other Suckers – Any program which pays you a commission on the joining fee smells scammy to me. Many disguise this fact by making it look like the joining fee is some kind of distribution license, while others thinly disguise it with some product.

Compulsory Product Purchases – They don’t know how to sell their products so they force distributors to charge their credit card every month in order to participate in the program. If you don’t participate, you’ll lose your downline.

Monthly Maintinence Fee – Any program where I have to pay a so called “monthly maintinence fee” just to stay on board (or I’ll lose my downline). This is crazy in the online world because eveything is automated.

Monthly Web Page Fee – Any program which charges me 20 – 40 bucks a month for some auto-generated web page is a scam for sure because you can get $10 per month web hosting where you can upload 300 domains (your own multiple page web sites).

Compare this to a legitimate internet businesses (such as an affiliate program) where there are no joining fees or ongoing fees to participate. All you do is sign up to the affiliate program and sell their goods by promoting your affiliate link.

Another thing to observe with affiliate programs is that your web page is FREE! This proves that there is little or no web page maintinence costs!

Legitimate Internet Businesses

There are legitimate internet businesses that may charge for a reseller license, but this is a bit different because there is no need to charge a monthly fee once the license is sold.

Not only that, once you have purchased a resell rights license, you generally get to keep a large slice (if not all) of the profits.

Trust Your Gut

If you feel any kind of pressure to join (or you’ll miss out) could be a sign that greed is taking over. Often we feel that the opportunity smells scammy right at the start, but greed can tell us to go ahead anyway.

If it looks barley legal, stay away!

Promote or start only legitimate online businesses you’ll be proud of, not some barely legal scam that’s registered in some tax shelter country.
